The most important pigment in Spirulina is chlorophyll, a green molecule common to plants. Chlorophyll releases ions when struck by the energy of sunlight.  Free ions are created through the chlorophyll in the bloodstream, if consumed before going outside of course, and then proceed to stimulate the biochemical reactions that form proteins, vitamins and sugars.
Chlorophyll is sometimes called `green blood" because of its similarity to the hemoglobin molecule found in human blood cells.  Chlorophyll is amazing at detoxing the body and cleaning the bloodstream while providing nutrients from sunlight ions.  A highly recommended supplement for anyone.
