Oil Pulling

Oil pulling has mentions in early Aruveda from India and has been used as a folk remedy for generations.  It is known not only to improve dental health, but the overall health and longevity of the body.  Oil pulling has so many benefits that it is something that could change anyone's life for the better.  It takes a little reading to unfold the vast amount of testimonials including getting rid of tumors, blood disorders, sinus congestion, digestion problems, arthritis, varicose veins, migraines and more.  An old Ayurvedic saying goes: “It is beneficial for strength of jaws, depth of voice, flabbiness of face, improving gustatory sensation and good taste for food. One used to this practice never gets dryness of throat, nor do his lips ever get cracked; his teeth will never be carious and will be deep rooted; he will not have any toothache nor will his teeth set on edge by sour intake; his teeth can chew even the hardest eatables”—Charaka Samhita.  The Charaka Samhita is believed to have arisen around 400-200 BCE. It is felt to be one of the oldest and the most important ancient authoritative writings on Ayurveda.
Tips on Oil Pulling
  • The traditional oils for oil pulling are COLD PRESSED sesame or sunflower oil.  These oils have been proven for centuries to cure disease other oils have not been used that long no matter what people say
  • You have to gargle the oil for 15-20 min and DO NOT swallow.  The toxic little micro critters catch in the oil you got to spit that stuff out!
  • Coconut oil is becoming popular; I believe that it is probably a good oil to use but it has not been proven like the original oils proven for centuries.  It still probably works
  • I would say that these three oils provide the most promise!  Don't waste your time if you want to try this get a good oil!
  • Spit your oil in the toilet it is the easiest to flush away and keep your drains clean!
Good luck and I hope you try this your dentist will start thinking you are either a superhero or have been contacted by superior aliens cause your whole mouth will have improved that much.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is a very important vitamin in the structure of bones, whether regeneration is needed, maintenance, or growth.  Many animal product distributors recommend the consumption of dairy products for vitamin K but this is hardly the best source.  Vitamin K is more important in bone formation than calcium!  People must understand how to keep their take of vitamin K adequate to prevent their demise for in the vitamin K rich foods lie the foods that prevent blood clotting and kidney damage which eventually lead to prescription blood thinners.  People on blood thinners, it is unfortunately too late to use vitamin K foods so actually avoid these foods if you are on blood thinners!  The other importance of vitamin k is that supplements do NOT work.  You must eat the foods below to have enough vitamin K.  For women wanting to make a baby you MUST eat these foods for the health of your baby.

Parsley

Parsley is an amazing herb that is known to cleanse many tissues and organs in the body.  It is one of the most cleansing herbs you can consume; is best eaten in it's raw state. Parsley can be blended into dips, eaten chopped into salads, and can also be juiced.  Usually used only as a garnish on a diner plate, parsley is not to be disregarded!  Benefits include:
  • High in vitamin K
  • diuretic
  • aids digestion
  • freshens breath
  • cleans the kidneys/bladder (recommended for diets high in animal products)
  • cleans out cigarette tar from lungs/ cleanses lung tissues
  • anti cancer
  • soothes arthritis pain
  • stimulates hair growth
  • strengthens the immune system
  • anti inflammatory
  • high in anti-oxidants
Italian parsley
Curly leaf parsley
I wanted to show two distinct pictures of the two different kinds of parsley you may find at the grocery store.  Both species provide such similar benefits that the choice comes down to the texture.  It is probably beneficial to eat both kinds but preference is up to the picker.  This herb is very important for those on high protein diets like Atkins because it cleans the kidneys and bladder by flushing the regions and is able to dissolve/prevent kidney stones.  Many people want to achieve muscular bodies and overtax their kidneys through consumption of too much whey protein, meats, and processed protein bars.  This kidney stone residue can be flushed from the body gradually with treatments of fresh parsley.  I recommend making a parsley dip.  It can be quite tasty and makes you feel great!  Good luck out there and avoid kidney stones!

Spirulina

Spirulina, also known in the health foods market as blue green algae, is considered one of the most nutritionally complete of all food supplements.  Spirulina contains an abundant supply of many important nutrients for the body, including protein in the form of complete amino acids, iron, and vitamins A, K, and B complex. It has a high supply of beta carotene and yellow xanthophylls which have antioxidant properties. It is also rich in chlorophyll, fatty and nucleic acids, and lipids. Spirulina has countless uses as a supplement for preventative health.  Benefits of Spirulina include:
  • high in antioxidants
  • abundant protein and amino acids
  • rich in vitamins
  • rich in chlorophyll
  • prevents cancer/ aids in cancer reversal
  • easily absorb iron content (better than iron supplements!)
  • supports healthy vision
  • high source of vitamin B-12 (good for vegetarians)
  • detoxes heavy metals from the body
  • enhances immune system
  • antiviral
  • rich in gamma-linolenic acid aka GLA
  • reduces bad cholesterol
  • suppresses candida infections
  • helps vitamin absorption from all food sources
  • aids digestion
  • prevents constipation
Spirulina powder
The most important pigment in Spirulina is chlorophyll, a green molecule common to plants. Chlorophyll releases ions when struck by the energy of sunlight.  Free ions are created through the chlorophyll in the bloodstream, if consumed before going outside of course, and then proceed to stimulate the biochemical reactions that form proteins, vitamins and sugars.
Chlorophyll is sometimes called `green blood" because of its similarity to the hemoglobin molecule found in human blood cells.  Chlorophyll is amazing at detoxing the body and cleaning the bloodstream while providing nutrients from sunlight ions.  A highly recommended supplement for anyone.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a colorful root that gives off a yellow pigment and has many health benefits.  Turmeric originates in the West Indies and has been cherished and celebrated by India for thousands of years.  Turmeric is one of the main ingredients in the spice mix curry and is also used to color condiments such as mustard. The city of Erode in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu is the world's largest producer of turmeric. Erode has often been referred to as the "Yellow City".  Turmeric has such a strong yellow pigment it has also been used for thousands of years as a natural dye.  Health benefits of Turmeric include:
  • prevents and reverses cancer cells
  • powerful antioxidants
  • anti-inflammatory good for arthritis
  • soothes joint pain
  • prevents Alzheimer’s disease
  • large amounts of vitamin B-6
  • builds immune system
  • stabilizes insulin (if taken at the same time as sugar)
  • lowers cholesterol
Turmeric root

Turmeric can be an amazing supplement and diet addition.  Safe to take every day, though a small percentage of people are allergic to turmeric so try lightly to see for yourself.  Turmeric can also be applied to skin and the fresh root can be juiced for health.  It is a sacred tradition to coat the bride and groom in India the day before their wedding in turmeric paste.  Hehe, makes your skin like a a spray tan for a few days, but it will rid skin infections and acne extremely well!  Amazing bath addition though you will have to scrub your tub when you are done.  Ajax works great.  Enjoy your turmeric experiences.

Paprika

Paprika is a spice from the capsicum family and is related to hot peppers.  Paprika is found in the regions of South America and the West Indies.  It has a milder bite unless it is labeled as "hot paprika" which you can find in the traditions of Hungarian foods.  Hungarian paprika is usually my favorite at the spice shops because it usually is a brighter red than the other regions showcase.  Benefits of paprika include:
  • high amounts of vitamin c and potassium
  • improves blood circulation
  • mild antibiotic - good for colds and flu
  • anti-inflammatory
  • aids in iron absorption (good for anemia)
  • brightens mood/ stimulates energy
  • carotenids/ vitamin A
  • lowers blood pressure
  • improves blood veins and capillaries

Paprika

Paprika has carotenids that convert into vitamin A and this amount per tablespoon can be as much as 74% of daily value.  Carotenids are in the pigments that make paprika so bright.  The hot paprika that is organic and sun-dried has the most nutrients and carotenids.  All forms of paprika have a special protein that kills Salmonella and E-coli so paprika also makes a great spice rub or addition to marinades!  Enjoy the benefits of Paprika.

Chamomile

Chamomile has been used for centuries as an aid to insomnia and anxiety.  It's tea, is most commonly made from the species (Matricaria recutita) aka  German chamomile.  German chamomile is known to calm the nerves and is used to aid digestion and has anti-bacterial properties making it beneficial for colds and nervous tensions.  Good to buy the whole flower-head free steep chamomile tea for drinking   Benefits of German chamomile tea include:
  • sleep aid
  • calms and repairs nervous system
  • anti-bacterial
  • beneficial for hyperglycemia
  • aids digestion
  • anti-fungal
  • antiviral

Chamomile tea is beneficial to some but watch out for chamomile can interfere with blood thinners and blood disorders; it is also a uterine stimulant so watch consumption under duration of pregnancy.
German chamomile
When it comes to skin application and aroma therapy, chamomile has two other species involved with essential oils.  These include Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), and Moroccan chamomile (Tanaceta annum).  Essentials can be used for aromatherapy and can be diluted for massage.  The benefits of aromatherapy for these chamomile oils include:
  • reduces migraines
  • relief from nerve spasms
  • good for asthma
  • brings balance to diabetes
  • lowers blood pressure
  • good for emphysema
  • relieves menstrual pain
  • stimulates the thymus
  • sleep aid
The benefits of aromatherapy are great and highly recommended though the tea can be soothing for a night time cap or an anxiety attack the oils can do the same.  Remember German chamomile for tea and any of the three for essential oil aromatherapy.  Applying the oils to the skin (diluted with carrier oil) can ease rashes and skin infections and is historically known to soften the tone of skin.  For skin and aromatherapy I personally prefer Morrocan chamomile which is from the tansy family and has a blue color.  Good German chamomile will also be blue, but is from the sunflower family so make sure you are not allergic.  Roman chamomile is most related to German and is preferred by some for its fragrance.  It is not blue.  Enjoy the soothing properties of chamomile.

Oregano Oil

True traditional oil of oregano is a special species of oregano named origanum vulgare from the Mediterranean especially from Greece and thus is sometimes called Greek oregano.  Be careful to make sure you buy this type of oregano oil or when buying look for the carvacrol content.  When buying a supplement you want a 65-80% carvacrol percentage rating.  Also make sure the oil is organic, wild crafted, or therapeutic grade.  This ensures your oil is safe to use in food and on your body.  Oregano oil can be taken internally or massaged onto skin if first diluted with a good carrier oil (I recommend jojoba for oregano oil).  The benefits of taking this supplement internally include:
  •  kills off mold, yeast, and fungus invasion in the body
  • builds your immune system
  • inhibits the growth of enteric organisms
  • digestive aid
  • antihistimine
  • soothes allergies
  • good for menopause and for female hormones
  • soothes inflammation
  • good for lung congestion
  • eliminates athletes foot
  • combats psorisis
  • full of vitamins
Origanum Vulgare
The benefits of oil of oregano of this species with the carvacrol content in check are vast!  This herb is called "the delight of the mountains" over in the Mediterranean.  Topically the oil can be used to rid oneself of warts and do remove skin tags from the body.  It is also good for massage once again if diluted!!  DO NOT put into your bath I did it once and it floated in a bubble to my right outer thigh and burned it!  I had a red mark that smarted for a week.  Good luck and do an oregano cleanse it is very good for you every now and then and makes you feel rejuvenated once complete.

Cilantro

Cilantro is an amazing herb that is known for cleaning up the effects of mercury fillings and canned goods.  Cilantro is a chelating agent and removes heavy metals from the brain and the body.  Chopped fresh it is easy to hide a whole bundle from the store into a nice dinner salad.  Fresh cilantro has benefits such as:
  • flushes heavy metals and other toxins out of the body
  • antifungal
  • antibacterial
  • antioxidants
  • anti-anxiety
  • blood sugar control
Cilantro is amazing for keeping the body youthful and disease free.  It can kill salmonella right off of bad meat; not an excuse to buy bad meats!!  Point is that cilantro is very strong at killing germs in the body and is an amazing supplement and garnish to your health.  Cilantro can add some spice to your life and is recommended if worried about heavy metals, have mercury fillings, and/or eat alot of canned goods.

Psyllium Husk

Psyllium husk is a special fiber that contains soluble and insoluble fibers.  Psyllium fiber is over 60% soluble fiber making it a very special source of supplemental fiber.  It would take over 10 tablespoons of oat bran to equal the amount of soluble fiber in one tablespoon of psyllium husk!  Soluble fiber has benefits for blood cholesterol, control of blood glucose, digestions, and weight loss!  Psyllium husk also has insoluble fiber which is good for the health of your colon.  The supplement can be taken in whole form or in a capsule but just make sure you always pound a glass of 12 oz of fluids or more!  Allow enough fluid for the fiber to properly expand.  Psyllium is good for:
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Indigestion, constipation, or diarhea
  • weight reduction
  • increase metabolism
  • intestional/colon health
  • diabetics
  • lowers cholesterol
Psyllium seed husk

Psyllium is a great addition to the diet to control your weight, shrink your waist, enhance your digestion so your days become more comfortable, and is highly recommended for a low fiber diet; you know who you are out there not eating your broccoli!!  Try a psyllium supplement!!  Great for Atkin's diet style.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek, also known as methi seeds, provides wonderous health benefits and is an amazing addition to any health plan.  The herb is safe to take on a daily basis and has no negative side effects though it may create a maple odor to your sweat!  Through my experince I have brought people onto the idea of fenugreek for sweat odor and one friend actually stopped having to use Degree 24hr for the first time in her life!  Very powerful for digesting carbs and stabalizing blood sugar this seed is very good for diabetics and for preventing type 2 Diabetes.  I personally love my maple sweats and all the benefits of fenugreek which may include:
  •  reverses bronchitis
  • reduce fevers
  • soften sore throats
  • speed healing of wounds
  • soothes swollen glands
  • lessens skin irritations
  •  control blood sugar - diabetes
  • shrink ulcers
  •  aids in the treatment of cancer
  • promotes lactation
  • aphrodisiac
  • reduces dandruff and encourages hair growth
  • aids digestion
  • reverses reproductive disorders
  • soothes arthritis
Fenugreek has always done me well and I always seem to have a larger cup size when I go bra shopping no lie!  Must be the hormones in the seed that encourage lactation and reproductive organ balance.  I strongly encourage this for nursing mothers to supply an overflow of breast milk.  Fenugreek can be sprouted, found in curry spice, fried, and also steeped as a tea.  The sprout is bitter but try adding sweet and spiciness to the mix to balance the flavor!  Also try fenugreek leaves if you can find them at your local farmer's market.  You could also plant your own; they are delicious!
